I just wanted to remind you of a few things as students head into a much need and well-earned break:

-       -   I expect students practice a little over the break (this ensures we continue our progress and don’t take a step back in our learning)

-       -   Gr.6 and 8 will have band and will be playing on Monday January 5^th, so please remind your child to bring their instrument on the first day back after the break

-        -  I will try my best to remind students to take their instruments home for the break, but please give them a reminder before Friday as well

Band shirts are in!

Our band shirts have arrived! Students will be getting them either Monday or Tuesday next week, depending on when their class has band.

3-Way Conferences

I can’t believe it is already time for progress reports and 3-way conferences! I will be available for interviews both on Thursday night and Friday morning and you can book an interview with me through the front office. You can also just stop by the band room before or after your other interviews. I have attached a copy of the grade 6, 7 and 8 band course syllabus so you can see what each grade is working on and what our learning goals are.

Just a reminder that the 25^th Annual Lakeridge Winter Band Concert is Thursday December 11^th, with performances at 1:00pm and 7:00pm. Students are reminded that they are expected to attend both performances.

Band Shirts

Just a reminder that shirt orders are due this Friday (November 7)! Please get them in as soon as you can! You can find the order form on the post below.

Test Due Today

Our second test of the year is due today. Students will be able to complete #19 in class today, or can email it tonight here.

Band Shirts

Traditionally, I have expected families to purchase white dress shirts and black dress bottoms for their children for our concerts and performances. This year, I am ordering band shirts, which will be embroidered with “Lakeridge Band”. These shirts will cost from $13 (for youth sizes) to $14 (for adult sizes), and students will get to keep these shirts forever. If we are clever with choosing a size that is a bit too big, most students will be able to purchase one shirt for grade 6, 7 and 8.

Composition Assignments

I hope you have had an awesome time being first time composers! I look forward to reading and marking your pieces. If you have not handed in your composition assignment, please do so as soon as possible as I would like to have these marked and handed back to you on Monday.

Parents, you can find the assignment here. Remember to write in pencil and make sure to include everything in the checklist!

Test

Good morning!

As you already know, your first test is due on Wednesday Sept.24. We will go over different ways to submit your test in class, but just a reminder:

- You can submit by email by clicking here. Remember to attach the audio or video file to the email.
- You can submit by bringing a flash drive to school. Be prepared to leave it with Mr. Appleton for the day.
- You can play your test live, and Mr. Appleton will record your test.
- You can record yourself using the Interactive Practice Studio. You can download it here. Every student has a one-year subscription to this awesome program!

I record your live tests so that you build a digital portfolio, displaying all of your exams.

If you have any questions, don't leave it until Wednesday - ask!

Beginner Clinic

Happy Friday everyone!

I hope you all had a fantastic time at the beginner band clinic yesterday! Now, remember when I said that you shouldn't touch your instrument until the clinic so that you didn't develop any bad habits? Well, that time is over! Please practice your instrument and show off your new skills for your family this weekend (sorry parents)!

Don't get discouraged if you can't play the same way you did in the clinic or if you forget some things...that is normal! We will review all of the basics of playing your instrument on Monday, so just try your best this weekend.

Remember, we have band every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday...remember to bring your instrument, folder and method book to school on those days.
